Starting in August 2021, I’m changing up my book review format just a bit. In the past, I would write fairly lengthy reviews, but I’ve come to realize in this busy world of ours, that people just don’t have the time any more – or the desire – to read such long reviews. Hence – “Mel’s Mini Reviews” will now be the name of the game on this blog!
My reviews will always be about a book I rated with either 4 or 5 stars. There are soooo many books available for readers to choose from—and to choose to buy—that I want to save you readers both selection time and hard-earned money. I want to give you “the best bang for your buck.” So, even though there are some 3-star books that are still “good,” I’ll only post reviews about the “better” and “best” books I’ve read.
**** 4 Stars ****
Book Summary
Rory Perez, a food truck owner who can’t cook, is struggling to keep the business she inherited from her aunt out of the red–and an upcoming contest during Modest’s annual food truck festival seems the best way to do it. The prize money could finally give her a solid financial footing and keep her cousin with special needs paid up at her beloved assisted living home. Then maybe Rory will have enough time to meet the man she’s been talking to via an anonymous online dating site.
Jude Strong is tired of being a puppet at his manipulative father’s law firm, and the food truck festival seems like the perfect opportunity to dive into his passion for cooking and finally call his life his own. But if he loses the contest, he’s back at the law firm for good. Failure is not an option.
Complications arise when Rory’s chef gets mono and she realizes she has to cook after all. Then Jude discovers that his stiffest competition is the same woman he’s been falling for online the past month.
Will these unlikely chefs sacrifice it all for the sake of love? Or will there only ever be tacos for one?
My Thoughts
Author Betsy St. Amant has dished up another satiating read in this contemporary romance novel involving food and love … and the love of food! Tacos for Two is all about the savory Mexican meals made in food trucks. I live in Texas, and we love us some tacos, so I ate this book right up! I also love cilantro just like the hero Jude. I don’t know what is wrong with the heroine Rory who calls cilantro a “vile weed.” Ha!
Betsy’s talent for description shines once again in this novel, whether she’s depicting food, places, or people. This author is skilled in writing in such a masterful way that the reader will be able to “almost taste” a quesadilla, or feel as if the characters in the book are people in real-life who you know intimately.
The struggle is real people – that is both the heroine and hero need to figure out what really satisfies their soul, what are they truly passionate about, and good at doing, that will lead them to their own happily ever after. Betsy did a terrific job realistically portraying this struggle.
Readers will smile to themselves several times over both funny and cute scenes in this book, but also touching moments. The author excels at mixing together equal portions of light-hearted scenes along with serious scenes, making this an interesting, page-turning read.
Note: I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) of this novel for being a part of Revell Read’s Blogger Program. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.
